Mr Karan deep Gurung, a soft-spoken well-versed gentleman, and the nephew of a well-known Botanist Late Dr Anita Gurung who had a great contribution towards the fertilisation of tree and plantations of new species surrounding mangmaya, welcomes you to his picturesque homestay, which is hidden from the outer world by green trees and plants in Bara(Big) Mangmaya or as locally known Bara(Big) mangwa in Darjeeling District. The host lives with his parents and is newly married. It is his love towards nature that he left his prestigious job (Mumbai I.T. sector) and with the help of his father, who is also a naturalist, he has started to pursue the path which his aunt had shown (established).

Location

The homestay situated in Bara(Big) Mangwa or Bara(big) Mangmaya a small hamlet of Darjeeling district can be called as the example of Ecotourism. The surroundings of the homestay may be called as one of the small examples which shows Mr Gurung’s intention and hard work, what he is actually doing, you will no doubt experience it while staying here. The entire lawn of the homestay is covered with an eye-pleasing deep green carpet of soft grass covered with freshly fallen dew, where you walk on naked feet and the enchanting colourful butterflies dancing around. On one side of the homestay, you can have an uninterrupted 180 degrees wide mesmerizing view of mountains with continuous changes of white clouds, happening out there at the foothills of those mountains. You can sit on the veranda and quietly observe the beautiful creation of mother nature, or read or any creative work cause the surrounding environment to continuously refresh you and energise you in that. The homestay comes with a garden where you can sit relax and enjoy the cinematic view with a background of birds whistling. The host also provides a place where you are with your loved ones can put up a bonfire at night and experience your holiday in a unique way. Or you can experience a mountain village tour or nature exploration with Mr Gurung or with his father, a humble people who has extensive knowledge of the surroundings or take a walk with him in the jungle for Bird watching.

Feature

Because of religious belief or putting it in another way, they only consume whatever they get from Mother Nature. Thus the host only offers vegetables (fully organic) food to the guests. The host has a big spacious room can accommodate four people or a family at Rs. 2200/day and provides organic veg food at Rs 700/day per person (breakfast/lunch/dinner) or can opt food at 500/day per person (breakfast/dinner). Though the host provides tea and snacks (morning and evening) as complimentary with the package.
